Organic Seed Alliance (OSA) is undertaking a
California-wide project to help organic specialty seed producers improve their
production practices, market access, and the supply of seed adapted to organic
growing systems.
The
program will:
- Create face-to-face networking opportunities for seed producers and buyers
- Develop a web database to allow buyers to communicate their needs and producers to share records on seed inventory, pricing, crop yields, and trial and breeding results
- Produce and distribute marketing materials to promote the value of California organic specialty seed
- Support the development of five regional seed hubs across the state
Current
and aspiring seed producers are encouraged to connect with their regional hubs
to:
· Attend
regional seed production workshops and field days
· Apply
for scholarships to attend a three-day Seed Biology, Production and
Quality course and a five-day Seed Business 101
horticulture course at University of California- Davis
· Access
specialty seed production equipment through tool sharing hubs (each hub will
determine its equipment needs)
