Farm and Ranch Manager Apprenticeships through the California Farm Academy

The Farm and Ranch Manager Apprenticeship Program is intended for those for those interested in furthering their career in agriculture. As a registered Apprenticeship (pending), it requires completion of 3000 hours of paid on-the-job training as well as 220 hours of coursework, over the course of approximately 2 years.
On-the-Job Training
Hands-on experience is a critical component in learning to operate a farm. Apprentices will work directly with farmers and/or farm managers to complete 3,000 hours of on-the-job training, on an increasing wage schedule. Our partner farms range from 5 to 4,000 acres, and grow a diversity of crops from processing tomatoes and sunflowers to organic vegetables for CSA’s and farmers markets. The work week is between 30-60 hours, depending on the season, the farm, and whether the apprentice is taking courses or not.
Coursework
In addition to on-the-job training, apprentices will be required to complete 220 hours of coursework over the two years. These hours include:
Completion of the California Farm Academy’s 7-month Beginning Farmer Training Program (200 hours)
Advanced courses
Industry trainings
Independent project
Business plan
